Classes for the 2016-2017 academic year at the University of Northern Iowa have begun and that means we’re welcoming new students to our team at the Business and Community Services. Nick Miller is a freshman at UNI majoring in Computer Science and will be our Web Design Intern. Nick will be responsible for the coding ins and outs of multiple BCS program websites. It’s his first year at UNI and he shared some of his excitements with us.
First year at UNI! Tell us a little bit why you chose it.
Originally, I wanted to go to the University of Iowa and never heard of UNI before. However, on my college visit at Iowa, I realized it was way too big of a school and that means a lot of walking. On the way back up to Wisconsin my mother decided to stop at a school she heard had a good business program just to see what it was, UNI. I fell for it instantly and ended up going here, don’t regret it yet!
What encouraged you to major in computer science?
I’ve been coding for years now and haven’t gotten bored of it yet. I want to start my own business after college and it involves computer programming and web developing so it seemed like it would be a good idea to learn something about it while I have the chance.
How did you spend your summer?
Catching up with old friends before everyone left for college again. We spent some time tubing, frolfing (a.k.a disc golf), jet skiing, boating and playing sports.
What makes you most excited for the upcoming year?
Meeting all sorts of new people and starting to turn myself from a high school boy into a college man with his life together...sort of.
Tell us what you’ll be doing at the BCS.
I’ll be putting all of the graphic design ideas into code to display them on the computer screen. I’ll also be working on coding projects for various programs within the Business and Community Services.
Real talk: are you team Piazza or team Rialto?
I’m Team Rialto, for sure!
